The disliked acts (makruhat) of wudu
Ten actions the fiqh dislikes during wudu, from wasting water to making wudu inside a mosque.
Some things are makruh in wudu. That means it is better not to do them, even though your wudu is still valid if you do.
Better not to do these things
- Doing the opposite of the good habits (sunnahs).
- Using way too much water, or too little.
- Talking about things that have nothing to do with wudu, unless you really need to.
- Splashing water hard on your face or body.
- Washing a part more than three times.
- Wiping your head three times with new water.
- Shaking the water off your hands hard when you finish.
- Using water left over from a woman's wudu.
- Making wudu inside a mosque.
- Making wudu somewhere dirty (najis).
The following actions are makruh (disliked) in wudu.
Doing the opposite of what is recommended (the sunnahs) in wudu.
Using excessive or insufficient water for wudu.
Talking about worldly matters excessively, without necessity, while in the state of making wudu.
Splashing water forcefully on the face or other parts.
Washing any part of wudu more than three times.
Wiping the head three times with fresh water.
Flicking the water off the hands after completing wudu.
Using the leftover water from a woman's wudu.
Performing wudu inside a mosque.
Performing wudu in an impure (najis) place.
The following are makruh in wudu; the source text does not distinguish here between makruh tahrimi and makruh tanzihi for each item.
Doing the opposite of what is sunnah in wudu.
Using an excessive or an insufficient amount of water.
Speaking of worldly matters at length, without necessity, while making wudu.
Splashing water forcefully on the face or other limbs.
Washing any limb of wudu more than three times.
Performing masah of the head three times with fresh water.
Flicking the water from the hands on completing wudu.
Using water left over from a woman's wudu.
Performing wudu inside a mosque.
